Future High Streets

Some of you will have been watching the Council’s 'Quality Corridors' project as it replaces shopfronts and refurbished building exteriors on Topping Street, Deansgate and Edward Street.  This project is in its last six months are there are still a number of buildings to be completed because of Covid-19 but the team are confident of finishing in time.

Here are one or two images of the new shopfronts ...

In addition to these, the Council is bidding for monies from the Government's 'Future High Streets Fund' and 'Town Deal Fund'.  These both offer up to £25m each for a range of projects that help revitalise the high street, create a more sustainable local economy and improve educational and social opportunities.

The details of these bids haven’t yet been released, but there are likely to be clear impacts for the area around the Winter Gardens given its location of what is Blackpool’s de-facto high street.  Areas for which funding can be sought range from public realm and business incubation units to digital transformation and housing.

To help the council with this, we’re asking you to complete an online survey if you can, to let the Council know what you want out of these projects for your town.  Is it heritage, is it a more diverse range of shops and independent businesses, is it better quality private rental accommodation?

You can find the survey here https://blackpooltownsfundengagement.commonplace.is/  and having tried it ourselves we’re happy that it isn’t one of those that lead you to certain answers, there’s plenty of boxes for your own detailed comments and asks!

The Winter Gardens Trust was set up to raise awareness of the significance of the spectacular grade II* listed Blackpool Winter Gardens and to support its repair and restoration.
